To wean or not to wean

I’ve breastfed longer than anyone else in my family, for that matter Yiek’s family too. Though, I’ve supplemented it with one formula a day he still gets most of his milk from me. I didn’t want to supplement him with formula but it’ll be easier once I decide to wean and I’m too lazy to pump so there.

Now he is 9 months and I’m toying with the idea of weaning him. I initially wanted to wean him when he reaches 12 months but he has been biting my nips a lot these days and it hurts like hell!!!

Pros of weaning:
1. I can finally eat whatever like, drink coffee to sawa, drink alcoholic beverages and apply any beauty cream without the risk of passing it to him.
2. I no longer need to hide in the rest room or some corner to nurse him, I can just prop the bottle in his mouth and viola, he gets his fill. Breast-feeding isn’t that accepted here. I do sometimes get weird looks when I’m feeding him in public, mind you I feed very discreetly with matching nursing wrap pa ha.
3. HE will sleep longer with the assumption that formula isn’t easily digested. I’m not too sure about this though, I’ve tried feeding him formula before bed but he still wakes up 4 hours later.

Cons of weaning:
1. Convenience – I have to prepare the bottle, nuke it and wash the darn things. WHen I’m breastfeeding whenever he fells hungry, I just give him my boob and viola he shuts up.
2. he won’t take calories from me anymore therefore I’ll get fatter faster.
3. our bonding. The satisfaction that he needs me and will prefer me and me alone.
4. expense – formula is expensive. I can save as much as $60-100 per month.
5. nutrients- breastmilk is still best for baby . I wonder if the nutrients I’m passing to him are enough, I don’t have a very balance diet and I always forget to take my prenatal vitamins.

Bentot-bentot. Maybe at 10 or 11 months. but definitely not 12 months.

Vendo Coffee

I have this sudden craving for instant coffee, the one from the vending machine. I always feel excited when I go to a vending machine to have my coffee fix, with almost shaking hands I drop some coins and press A6 (coffee, milk and sugar combi). I can then hear the whish-whash sound as the liquid is poured into my cup, with much anticipation I eagerly get the now-filled cup and take a sip. Ahhh this is life I tell myself, orgasmic, I’ve died and gone to coffee heaven. I’ve had silly stories just to have my coffee fix. There is a vendo machine on the first floor of our condo in manila, as I always like to leisurely sip my coffee, I ‘d buy a cup and walk all the way to my office which is a few buildings away from where I live. Imagine that, me precariously balancing the cup so it wouldn’t spill. If unfortunately I spill some, I’d immediately lick it off my fingers. It’d be a shame to go to waste.

Darn I miss coffee.
